Lanzarote is famous for its volcanic energy, legends rooted in scorched earth, and a gastronomy that captivates the senses. But this weekend, the island is buzzing with a different kind of eruption: on 24 and 25 July, Arrecife becomes the epicentre of the Lava Live Festival.

The line-up, day by day

Friday 24 July

The most melodic night of the weekend. Headlined by Juan Luis Guerra, bachata and merengue legend, alongside the pop sound of Ana Mena. Completing the bill are Juanma Restrepo, Ventura, Malpeis and Renzzo El Selector.

Saturday 25 July

Urban rhythms take over. Headlining: Nicky Jam, reggaeton icon, and Nathy Peluso, presenting her Club Grasa DJ Set. Joining them are Barry B, Rodrigo Fenix and Toni Bob.

The exact times for each performance are published on the festival's website and app a few days beforehand. As a reference, in the June edition performances ran from late afternoon through to the early hours.

How to get to Estadio Lava Live

It's on Av. Fred Olsen, s/n, in Arrecife, next to the Los Mármoles pier area.

By car. From Puerto del Carmen, around 15 minutes; from Costa Teguise, about 10; from Playa Blanca, roughly 35-40. Bear in mind that nearby parking fills up fast: arrive with time to spare, or park a bit further out and walk.

By taxi — the smartest option. If you're going to drink, don't even think about driving. Demand will be high when the festival lets out (around 2-3am): save the number of a taxi rank or club together as a group to share a ride. By guagua (bus). Arrecife is the hub of the island's bus network, so getting there in the daytime is easy from almost anywhere. The problem is the journey back in the early hours: check the night timetables at arrecifebus.com before relying on them, because services at that time are minimal or non-existent.

Before you go: what to bring (and what not to)

Bring:

  1. Your ticket on your phone, downloaded, and a fully charged phone (or a portable charger).
  2. Cash and card. Many festivals run on a cashless wristband system: check the website to see if you need to top up credit.
  3. A light layer. Sounds odd in July, but it's at night, by the sea, with the alisios (trade winds) blowing: it cools down by 3am.
  4. ID or passport. You might be asked for it at the entrance and at the bar.
  5. Comfortable, closed-toe shoes. You'll be on your feet for hours.
If you're bringing kids

every minor needs a ticket, must be accompanied at all times by a parent/guardian, and you'll need to bring the printed and signed responsibility form (downloadable from the festival website and tickety). Without that form, they won't be let in.

What's usually not allowed in

outside food and drink, glass bottles, sharp objects. Check the exact list at lavalivefestival.com/condiciones-de-acceso, which has the final say.

Inside the venue

  1. Food: there's a food area to refuel between sets (from a quick hot dog and chips to various stalls).
  2. Orange Point (Punto Naranja): the festival is accessible. This point offers assistance and services for people with reduced mobility, intellectual, hearing or visual disabilities, and anyone who needs a bit of extra support.
  3. Purple Point (Punto Violeta): a safe space for support and information in the event of any gender-based aggression. If you or anyone in your group needs it, it's there.
  4. Merchandise: t-shirts, hoodies and lanyards, in case you want to take the memory home with you.

Make the most of the trip: it's not all about the concert
